Hempel Glass Museum

Our founder, J.C. Hempel, was an avid collector of antique glass and, over the years, he built up one of the finest collections in Europe. A must-see for anyone interested in antique glass, his collection is now housed at the Hempel Glass Museum in Nykøbing Sjælland, just a one-hour drive from Copenhagen. Created in 1965 by J. C. Hempel himself and supported by the Hempel Cultural Foundation, the Museum also includes many fine examples of 18th and 19th century china and earthenware.

Since 1988, the Hempel Cultural Foundation has given the annual Hempel Glass Prize to a prominent, young artist who works in glass, and the prize includes a scholarship for studying abroad. A selection of the award-winning artist’s works is shown at the Museum every year, and a number of pieces are purchased by the Museum to constantly bring new vitality to the collection.
