Building pre-schools and providing high quality education in Sierra Leone

The project will upgrade the level of 5 primary schools and build 5 pre-schools

Sierra Leone is a small Western African country with a population of approximately 6 million people, which is still recovering from the civil war 1991-2002.  Many years of political instability and mismanagement has hindered economic development of the country, resulting in 70% of the population living in extreme poverty. Sierra Leone’s overall educational development is progressing but very slowly and unequally. It is not supporting girls, women and people living in rural, poor communities as much as needed. 56% of adults over the age of 15 have never attended formal school.

The project will upgrade the level of 5 primary schools and build 5 pre-schools. The pre-schools will be an integrated part of the primary schools.

The main activities are

  • Building of 5 pre-schools
  • Upgrading 5 primary schools with furniture and other equipment
  • Development of new curriculum and providing school materials
  • Training of teachers
  • Training of school management

The project will benefit 1,125 children and 150 teachers.
